Predeceased by his parents Albert and Margaret (Porter); born at home in Guelph on April 27, 1936. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ngoc Ly. Late husband of Barbara Hill (2003). Loving father to his children, Susan French (Len), Sandra Hill (Randy Hamilton), and John Hill (Tanya). Predeceased by his son's Steven Hill (1990) and David Mclaughlin-Dockendorf (2008). Loving brother to Bonnie Martin, Howard Hill, Charles Hill, Robert Hill, John Hill (Pam) and Norman Hill (Sandra). Predeceased by his brother Arnold Hill and sister Jessie Mulholland. Treasured grandpa to Adam Clarke (Leanne), Jake French, Krystal Hill, Kandace Hill (Brandon), Steven Hill, Justin Hill, Janice Benham (Chris) Nicole Cable. Great grandpa to Savannah Hilborn and Sydney Bickford. George will also be forever remembered by his extended family and dear friends. First in his class, George served in the Canadian Naval Forces. He later started a trucking company, George Hill Cartage, also known as Hill Trucking and is compassionately remembered as someone who would help any driver in need. George was a pillar in the Cambridge sports community. He was involved in Minor Hockey, Ringette and Baseball as coach and umpire. He also was involved in the start-up of Cambridge Minor Football. He sponsored many youths who could not afford to play sports and volunteered may hours coaching, refereeing, or driving to games and tournaments. The eponymous 'George Hill Team of Year Award' was created to commemorate his contributions and dedication to the youth sports. In the past 14 years he travelled each year to Ben Hoi Vietnam where he met his loving wife, Ngoc Ly, and added to his family 5 stepchildren and 4 grandchildren. He loved the Vietnamese culture and made many new friends. In retirement he loved to drive around in his Model A car and was proud to drive in the Hespeler Christmas Parades, with his last one being in 2019 that he shared with his grandchildren. A sport enthusiast, he thoroughly enjoyed watching his games on TV and reading the newspaper. He will be missed terribly and remembered fondly with love. Special thanks to Hospice Wellington in Guelph for the loving care and compassion they provided to George in his last 6 weeks. Donations in memory of George Hill may be made to Hospice Wellington (795 Scottdale Dr., Guelph ON N1G 3R8; email: hospicewellington.org). Cremation has taken place with arrangements made by Corbett Funeral Home (95 Dundas St., Cambridge, ON). A celebration of life will take place in Summer 2021.
