Died: 08 Dec 2020, Oshawa, Ontario

LEGERE, David Gerald - Passed away suddenly at his home in Oshawa on December 8, 2020 at 63 years of age. He will be forever remembered by his sons Derek (Deanna) and Brad of Newmarket. He was the beloved son of Delia Burke and the late Laurie Leger. Survived by siblings Bonnie Young, Danny (d. 1997), Mike (Dineen), and John (Tracy), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Oshawa, he left at age 18 to join the navy in Halifax. He was a Radar Plotter aboard various ships. A major highlight would be in 1984, when the ship he was on helped guide the Queen's Royal Yacht Britannia into Toronto Harbor, and he had the honour of opening the limousine door for the Queen. He was proud to have served our military for 20 years and retired as a Petty Officer Second Class. After retiring, he worked in the oil fields of Alberta for a short time, and as a Tool and die maker in Newmarket. 12 years ago, he returned to his hometown of Oshawa and drove taxi until shortly before his death. Dad was a quiet man, but loved hockey, golf and bowling. In his early years, he loved to draw. He was very creative, and a self-taught handyman. Due to Covid-19, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place with burial to follow in the spring. (Durham Region News 31 Dec 2020)
