Ronald Bevan

Died: 26 Dec 2020

BEVAN, Ronald - Our dear father, Ronald (Ron) Alfred Bevan, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2020, in his 96th year. Predeceased by his wife, of 63 years, Helen. Eldest brother to Ray (deceased), Joyce, Betty (deceased), Dorothy (deceased), Bonnie (deceased) and Michael (deceased). Father of Diane Wilson (Don), and Cheryl Bevan (partner, Chuck Wilson); grandchildren: Julie Lisle (Nick), Christopher (Julie), Kevin (Elizabeth); great-grandchildren: Owen and Abbey Lisle, Griffen and Sydney Wilson and Justin and Ella Wilson. Ron served in the navy during WWII stationed off the East Coast of Canada at the young age of 17. For many years he enjoyed working for the CPR as an engineer travelling across Ontario. Ron earned a commendation from the CPR for saving a "runaway" train thereby diverting disaster in the heart of Toronto. Ron and Helen's passion was playing golf. They enjoyed many years with their large group of golfing friends at both Huntington and Blue Mountain Golf Clubs. Ron's significant golfing achievements were having the distinction of playing his "age" and also making an albatross in addition to four holes-in-one. Ron could often be heard whistling a tune of the Big Band era while every day doing his best to help others especially at Raglan Village where he lived for the last 11 years. His sense of humour seemed to grow in his later years, which we all enjoyed, and just recently he told us: "I am a Happy Man". He made others happy too. Ron would want to thank Dr. Richard Cornell for his excellent care and also the staff at Raglan Village who he often said treated him like family. Ron spent the last few days made welcome and very comfortable at Campbell House Hospice. For those of you who would like to donate to a charity on his behalf, a donation to Campbell House would surely make him smile. A private family celebration has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Fawcett Funeral Home – Collingwood. "Unforgettable – that's what you are..." (Toronto Star 30 Dec 2020)
