CHRISTIE, John Alexander (Jack) - The family of Jack Christie are sad to announce his passing on September 20, 2020 at the age of 93 years. Jack was born in Trochu on June 26, 1927, the 4th child of 7. He joined the Navy when he was 17 years of age. After discharge, Jack took training to become a plumber. He worked under a plumber in Calgary until he went on his own. He was a trained gas fitter, and skilled in many areas. He truly was a “Jack of all trades.” Jack married Madelyn Stunzi on September 4, 1948. He moved his family to Bassano where he ran a coin laundry, propane tank filling business, as well as his plumbing business. He was instrumental in starting the Elks Club in Bassano. He then returned to his home town of Trochu in the mid 1960’s, joining his brothers in “Christie Brothers Pork Limited.” He started his own business, “Jack Christie Trenching” and was very successful when the gas lines came into the area. Jack and Lynn spent many winters in their get-a-way in Mesa, Arizona. They retired to Trochu in the 1990’s and he got very involved in golf, Elks, woodworking, and computers. He was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Many of his family own hand-crafted pens, wooden clocks, bowls and other items he created on his lathe. He took great pride in his family, his yard and his scooters. He was a life member of the Legion, a life member of the Elks and supported many other charities. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Hazel Christie, brothers – Charles and Robert, sisters - Jean and Nancy; daughter – Heather, and son – John, as well as numerous other family members. Jack leaves to mourn his passing by his loving wife Madelyn of 72 years. His memory will be cherished by his children, George Christie of Australia, Janice (Howard) Weis of Huxley, daughter-in-law, Sharon Christie, 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Jim (Doris) Christie, Tom (Phyllis) Christie and many nieces and nephews. In keeping with Jack’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
