MARSHALL, Gerald Peter - With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gerald Peter Marshall, our dear Father, grandfather, and great- grandfather, on November 18, 2020 at Dartmouth General Hospital.
Gerald was predeceased by his wife of 46 years Carol Anne (White) Marshall. Gerald is also predeceased by a second wife, Kathleen May Melissa Marshall.
Gerald is survived by eight children: Kevin (Deborah) Marshall, Gary (Irene) Marshall, Constance (James) Carson, Colleen Marshall, Darrell (Diane) Marshall, Krista (Claude) Marshall-Dupuis, Derek (Joanne) Marshall, Gina Marshall (Claudio); 15 Grandchildren: Christina (Steve), Amanda, Adam (Marina), Andrew (Brianna), Matthew (Michelle), Patrick (Angela), Anthony (Danielle), Timothy, Jessica, Sara (Jack), Sean, Brandon, Nicolas, William, Alexandre; 2 great Grandchildren: Jack and Eva.
Gerald was born in Montreal in the Homeopathic Hospital on July 29, 1932. Mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Collins, Kilsyth Scotland. Father, Stanley Marshall, a Royal Navy Captain, Hull England. Gerald was pre-deceased by half- brother William Stanley Donald Marshall. Gerald joined the Canadian Armed Forces at a young age serving 22 years as a Naval Aviation technician and Instructor. Gerald was proud graduate of The Canadian Institute of Management, completing qualifications at Saint Mary’s University and McGill University. After retiring from the CAF Gerald worked in accounting and management positions in the Automobile Industry; also as Technical writer for Canadair Ltd. in Montreal, Quebec and IMP Group. Gerald was a founder and leader of a successful residential land and housing development project in Cole Harbour providing key housing for his and other families.
Gerald spent many hours in support of his children and grandchildren’s activities in the community volunteering his time and support for Cole Harbour Minor Hockey and other minor sports, Wolf Cubs, Dartmouth Pipes and Drums, figure skating, Girl Guides and others. Gerald’s interests and hobbies included singing as a member of the City of Lakes Barbershop Chorus, bowling, skating, gardening, coin collecting, cribbage, researching family history and connecting with lost relatives worldwide. Gerald was a strong supporter of Shearwater Aviation Museum Foundation and National Association of Federal Retirees. Gerald was known for his ingenuity and creativity in building and repairing just about anything his family or others needed. His family and friends respected and admired his technical talents as a “Jerry It” fix. Gerald will be missed by all who knew him including his children and grandchildren, and Gilbert’s Lane, Lunenburg County area residents.
There will be no visitation. Due to the present Covid19 restrictions, Gerald's funeral service will be postponed and held at a future date.
