MACKENZIE, Mary Elizabeth - Age 78, Shelburne, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on March 9, 2020. Mary was born in Liverpool, on May 4, 1942, a daughter of the late Earle and Idella (Reinhardt) MacKenzie. Mary joined the Navy in 1960 and spent the next 27years serving her country. Upon retirement, she joined the Corp of Commissionaires in 1987 for nine years. Upon closure of the base, Mary had several jobs in the community, ending her working career as Shelburne's Special Constable and By-Law enforcement officer. Mary was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 holding a variety of roles. Mary was a past-president, a past-Commander of Zone 12, a past-Commander of Nova Scotia District E. She was also their long-term Chaplain and a member of the Legion Band. Mary was also a volunteer with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corp, 180 Saxon. Mary's other interests included being a member of Trinity United Church choir and she loved playing softball, and later in life became an enthusiastic golfer. Mary was a great friend to all who knew her. Mary is survived by her son, Alexander; brothers, John MacKenzie and Ross (Jane) MacKenzie; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brother, Robert MacKenzie. Visitation will takeplace on Friday, October 16th from 6-8 p.m. in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Shelburne where a Legion Service will take place on Saturday, October 17th at 11 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Lesley Hamilton officiating. Interment at a later date. Memorial donations maybe made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the ALS Society of Nova Scotia. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 14 Oct 2020)
