ROBERGE, Albert Malcolm - It is with a mixture of sorrow and joy that the family of Albert Malcolm Roberge announces his passing on Feb. 18, 2006. With a strong mind but a broken heart Dad went to join the love of his life after a short but courageous battle with Mesothelioma (cancer) while surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his loving spouse Dora Marie (nee L’Heureux) on October 25, 2005, grandson Jesse Tourangeau, November 5, 1998, his parents and 6 brothers. Albert is survived by his children Linda (Eric) Breidfjord, Calgary AB; Rick (Pat), Chilliwack, BC; Paul (Elaine), Hauser, ID; Vivian (Sonny) Olson, Ladysmith, BC; Hubert (Julia), Hudson’s Hope, BC; Yvonne (Robert) Sharp, Ladysmith, BC; Floyd, Ardmore, AB; Neil, Fort Kent, AB; and Kevin, Calgary, AB. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, his sisters Eleonor Stelp, Vancouver, BC and Angeline Campbell, New Westminster, BC, 8 sisters-in-law, 5 brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Dad served 20 years in the Royal Canadian Navy with stints in New Westminster, BC, Victoria, BC, Churchill, Man, and Halifax, NS. After leaving the Navy he worked 20 years for the BC Liquor Board in Esquimalt, Chemainus, Ladysmith and Nanaimo. Another 20 years was spent enjoying his retirement and like he always told everyone “spending his children’s inheritance.” He enjoyed a full life working on genealogy for many years, bowling up until last November, many years square dancing until Mom was no longer able to dance, traveling in their motor-home, volunteering his services with his church, no matter where he lived, and the Ladysmith Senior Center, calling bingo when needed and spending time with family and friends. His favourite sayings were: “It’s five o’clock somewhere!” and “You don’t need a reason to party, just enjoy your family and friends and that is party enough.” Dad was also a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Many thanks to Dr. Fergus Kennedy and all the caring and supportive staff of Ladysmith General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Prayers held Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ladysmith, BC at 7:00 pm. Funeral service is on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ladysmith, BC at 1:00 pm. with a tea to follow in the church hall served by the CWL members. Private family internment will follow at a later date. (Ladysmith Chemainus Chronicle 18 Feb 2006)
