LANGTHORNE, Robert Milton - Toronto, Ont. - Service will be held today in Turner Porter Peel Chapel, Mississauga, for Robert Milton Langthorne, 60, of Toronto who died Wednesday. Burial will be in Mississauga. He was born in Little Tancook Island. He served with the RCR and was discharged for health reasons. A year later, he joined the English navy and served for four years. At the end of the war, he transferred to the Canadian Navy. After completing service, he operated a business in Halifax, Bob's Burner Service. Some 20 years ago, he moved to Toronto where he resided until his death. He is survived by his wife, the former Betty Levy, Little Tancook; three sons, Robert, Phillip and Thomas; his mother, Mary Levy, Chester; three brothers, Andrew Levy, Halifax; John Levy, Little Tancook; Joseph Levy, Seabright; three sisters, Frances Levy, Little Tancook; Meretha Cleveland, Owen Sound, Ont.; and Audrey Mosher, Chester. Webmaster's note: According to their Marriage Registration, Robert married Betty Jeanette Levy on 26 Jul 1943 in Halifax, NS. On the registration, Robert is listed as age 21 and an Able Seaman in the RCNR (Royal Canadian Naval Reserve). It is believed the information in the obituary is in error and that Robert joined the RCNR, not the English Navy (Royal Navy), after his discharge from the RCR as he was in the RCNR 2 years before the end of the war. This error may be a result of the fact that many sailors in the RCN, RCNR and RCNVR served in ships of the Royal Navy during the war, but were not part of the Royal Navy.
