GRAYSTON, Edward Leslie (Joe) - It is with deepest sadness we announce the passing of Joe with his family by his side after a very brief and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Joe was born in Wainwright Alberta, moving to Richmond in 1942. At 18 Joe joined the Royal Canadian Navy. After 2 years of service he came home and began working on the waterfront. Joe was a proud member of ILWU Local 500 for 44 years. Joe and Lynne moved from Richmond to Boundary Bay in 1988. Joe loved retirement. He volunteered Fridays at the Delta Hospital Thrift Store. He would do anything for anybody. Joe enjoyed travelling. His last big trip with Lynne was to Australia, followed by a 5 week cruise from New Zealand to Vancouver, celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary on April 11th. He returned home happy and healthy. The diagnosis 7 weeks later was a shock. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Lynne, daughters Leanna (Doug), and Joanna, and his grandchildren, Samantha (Stephen) and Charley, his great-grandson James and his brother Don (Gerry) of Barrier. A special thank you to Lynne's family and Lynda Laughlin and family and the amazing staff at VGH. No service at Joe's request. A private family gathering was held on August 25th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Pancreas Centre BC or the Palliative Care Unit. Cheques can be made out to VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation 190-855 West 12th Ave, Vancouver BC, V5Z 1M9.
