BROWNELL, Arnold Harris - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Arnold Harris Brownell, on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at home, at the age of 90. Born in Northport, he was the oldest son of the late Florence (Pipes) and Wallace Brownell. Arnold is survived by Claudette (Wheaton) his loving wife of 59 years; and their children, Angela Brewer and Kelly Henebury of Sackville; and Melanie (Daniel) Dospital of Ottawa, Ont. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Megan Henebury and Devon and David Dospital who he adored; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Arnold was predeceased by his brother, Eugene (Peggy); and sister, Annie (Garnet) McCarthy. A proud Korean War veteran and Royal Canadian Legion member, Arnold "Brownie" served 22 years in the Royal Canadian Navy on several ships, retiring in 1972. He then went to work for Canada Post, where he stayed until his retirement in 1992. When he wasn't working, he loved to be outdoors, hunting and fishing or at the cottage in Northport with family. He was very handy and spent a lot of time in his workshop in the basement, fixing things or doing woodwork. He dearly loved his family and especially loved to spend time with his grandkids. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be missed terribly. Thanks to "our team", Dr. Mallery, Amanda Tinning and VON for their support in helping us care for him at home. We couldn't have done it without you! Cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life is to be held July 24th at 1 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, Lower Sackville, Rev. Sandra Cox officiating. Masks are suggested. Donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or charity of choice in lieu of flowers. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 20 Jul 2020)
