ELDRIDGE, Medford Grant - Age 77, of Upper Kennetcook passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro. Born in Windsor Forks on December 6, 1942, he was a son of the late Edward and Kathleen (Hiltz) Eldridge. Grant is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Lou (White); sons David (Cheryl) and Douglas (Tanya), grandchildren, Meaghan (Santanna), Kevin and Abby; great-grandchildren, Austynn and Leland; sister, Donna Cluett (Ben); brothers, Bill (Sandy), Owen (Janet), Karl (Lucy), Lewis (Joan), Gary; and sister-in-law, Joan Eldridge. He was predeceased by brothers, Douglas (infancy), Wayne, Victor and Sydney. Grant served 30 years combined in the Navy/Air Force. He enjoyed his career with the military, along with hunting, fishing, cooking, construction, and most of all his gardening. There wasn't anything Grant could not grow. He loved his weekly card parties bringing his homemade jams, baked goods, and his famous chow-chow that everyone loved. Every year Grant grew and donated his red rhubarb to the church for their annual Rhubarb Pie Frolic. Every Christmas the family couldn't wait to have his famous mouth-watering seafood chowder for Christmas lunch. Grant loved to talk and tell stories of serving his country and how he travelled the world and experienced more than he could have ever imagined. His infectious laugh and smile brought joy to all who knew him. His kindness and generosity helped many in time of need. He will be sadly missed by all and forever in our hearts and his family traditions will continue with each generation. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the nurses of the palliative care team, especially Trudy, VON, family doctor, Dr. Ellis, palliative care doctor, Dr. Smith, Dr. Kelly and Respirologist Aaron LeBlanc. Cremation has taken place. Due to the current Nova Scotia Health regulations concerning the Covid-19 virus, there will be a private family graveside committal service held at a later date in North Noel Road Cemetery. Donations in memory of Grant can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, 600 Abenaki Rd., Truro, NS B2N 5A1 or charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Highway 354, Kennetcook. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 21 Apr 2020)
