For Posterity's Sake A Royal Canadian Navy Historical Project
In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MOFFAT, Andrew McCall - passed away peacefully, on January 9, 2020. He is survived by son Doug (Cara), grandchildren, Jason (Kinga), Michael (Almaz), Kristen (Evan), and Alexandra (Adam), great-grandsons, Cody and Jacob, and many relatives and friends, especially Sid Denby who has been a loyal friend for many years. Andy was preceded in death by Lorna, his wife of 62 years, and his daughter, Doreen. Andy Moffat exemplified what it meant to be a volunteer, a citizen who gave of his time to make the community a better place. This commitment began for him on his eighteenth birthday, February 21, 1944, when he joined the Royal Canadian Navy, in which he served for the balance of war in the North Atlantic. But his commitment to service only began with the military. He was an active participant in St. Vital politics on particular issues and campaigned for many political candidates over the years. An electrician by trade, he frequently did pro bono electrical work for Regent's Park Church, which his wife Lorna faithfully attended. He was a leader of the Cub Pack and Boy Scout Troop at Glenwood Community Club, where he also coached hockey and eventually became President. During his tenure as President, the community club built an indoor arena, which for a number of years bore his name. Andy was also an active member in various service organizations: the Masons for most of his adult life, but also the Shrine and the Lions after he retired from the CNR. He was well known for his commitment to Robert's Rule of Order, his knowledge of by-laws, and his willingness to study budgets closely and ask difficult questions. Andy was an exemplary citizen.
