CAIRNS, William Stobie - passed away after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife June, sons from a previous marriage William (Janis) Cairns, Stewart (Cathryn) Cairns, Dean (Heather) Cairns, June's children Lance (Emma ) Bartsch, Mark Bartsch, Rhonda (Chris) Mendel. Grandchildren: April Cairns, Nathan and Kylie Cairns, Mackenzie and Alexander Cairns, Sera Bartsch, Mathew and Melinda Bartsch, Ava and Keaton Mundell. Sister Elsie Adams, sister Shirley (Bob) Scott, brother-in- law Ken Coutts, sisters-in-law Myrna Rempel, Lorna Sawatsky, Carol Small, Ellen (Rob) Krahn, brother-in-law Arlyn (Arline) Ewert, Randy (Sandy) Ewert and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Davina Cairns, infant daughter Davine, grandchildren Christine Lacharite and Oliver Mundell, brother George (Viola) Cairns, sister June (Harry) Barnes, sister Dorothy Coutts. In-laws Elmer and Agnes Ewert, brothers-in-law Stan Small, Rodney Sawatsky and Reginald Rempel. Bill was born June 22, 1934 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan and spent a majority of his youth in Wolseley, Saskatchewan. In April of 1951 at the age of seventeen he joined the Royal Canada Navy. He served in the Korean War and he loved his sea duty traveling around the world. He was awarded four medals for his service in the navy; The Korean Service Medal, the Korean Volunteer Service medal, the United Nations Medal (Korea), The Canadian Decoration with clasp. In 2012 he was pleased to receive the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for his service to Canada. He retired in 1977 and spent many happy years living in Clavet. In 1996 he married June and together they enjoyed gardening and traveling across Canada to see children and grandchildren. They also spent fourteen winters in Arizona, hiking, swimming and enjoying the weather and their friends. Memorial Service will be held Friday July 25, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. Nutana Park Mennonite Church (1701 Ruth St. E., Saskatoon, SK.). In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Lung Association.
