SYKES, Robert Stanley (Bob) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Robert (Bob) Stanley Sykes who died peacefully on December10, 2019 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria at the age of 76. Bob was born on July 26th, 1943 in Toronto to Ruth and Cliff Sykes. Predeceased by his wife Geraldine (Gerry) in 2011 and daughter Beverly in 2006, and beloved brother Bill also in 2006. Dad will be greatly missed by his children, Robert (Brenda), Kerry (Kelly) and David and grandchildren Brandon, Jesse, Tommy, Amy, Aleena and Patrick along with extended family and friends. He also leaves to mourn his partner Karen; who has been an immense support and companion to him over these past years. In 1960, at the ripe age of 17, Dad joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He was stationed in Halifax for the majority of his career and was posted to Victoria in the 80’s where he retired in 1992. During his career in the RCN he sailed on many ships, visited many ports and had many adventures. Hearing the stories of his young sailor life was inspirational and very entertaining. Dad was also an active legion member and when his health allowed he enjoyed volunteering. His health deteriorated very quickly over the past year and more severely over the past few weeks requiring him to be hospitalized. Dad showed incredible courage. He passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. We are forever grateful for all the wonder care and support provided by the staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital. There will be no service by request. Dad wishes you to raise your glass and say “C’est La vie”.
