ALLEN, Bernard (Bernie) - It is with heavy hearts we announce Bernie's passing, December 26, 2019, at the age of 69. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Elroy and Avis Allen. As a young man, he served as an Able Seaman in the Naval Reserves, leaving the Service to accept a work transfer with the bank, moving to Montreal. Returning to Nova Scotia, he worked as a loan officer for the Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries. Bernie is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Ben Lauzon) Allen, Montreal; Christina (Moy) Beaujean, Montreal; grandchildren, Felix, Eloise, Eleah, and Kaylee; sisters, Karen (Ray) Gilmore, Dartmouth; and Susan (Kevin) Keyes, Calgary; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A member of Saint James United Church, he was much loved by his church family, in particular, George and Donna, Florence, and Audrey. He loved helping others. He volunteered for many organizations, Meals on Wheels, Dartmouth General Hospital and as an Elder at his church. A kind and gentle soul, Bernie will be greatly missed by the residents and caring staff of Saint Vincent's where he lived for the past two years. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 3rd at 2 p.m. in Saint James United Church, 181 Portland St., Dartmouth.
