John Thurston (Roli) Parker

Died: 04 May 2010, Richmond, British Columbia

 

PARKER, John Thurston (Roli) - passed away peacefully in his 87th year at Richmond Hospital on May 4, 2010 with one of his sons by his side. He was born in Revelstoke, BC, grew up in Kamloops and served in the RCNVR during WW II aboard HMCS Asbestos K358, after which he graduated from UBC with a Forestry degree. He spent his entire career at B. C. Forest Products and, upon retirement, volunteered his master gardener services at VanDusen Gardens. Roli is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Macci, his children, Barbara (Dave) Howell, Vincent, Patrick (Jeanie), Teresa (Dennis) Tetreau, Michael (Christine Broatch), Brian and Gary (Michelle Smits). Missing Grandpa are his 10 grandchildren, Paul (Janice), Stephen (Maria) and Christy Howell, Gregory (Nicole) and Christopher Parker, Jennifer (Nick Moffatt) and Kyle Tetreau, Graeme, Charlie and Lauren Parker and his 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are his brother Ted in Bridport, England, several cousins and numerous friends. A Memorial Service to celebrate Roli's life will be held on Tuesday May 11, 2010 at St. Anne's Anglican Church, 4071 Francis Road, Richmond at 1:00 pm., followed by tea in the Church hall. John Parker joined the RCNVR during WW2.  After the war when the RCNVR was disbanded, he was transferred to the RCN(R).

HMCS KINGS - Appointed to Kings 14 Jan 1944 as a Prob SLt, RCNVR, for Disposal or Under Training (Navy List Feb 1944)

HMCS ASBESTOS - Appointed to Asbestos 04 Jun 1944 as SLt, RCNVR (Navy List Jul 1944). Commissioning crew as a SLt, RCNVR. Appointed Lt, RCNVR (seniority 02 Apr 1945) (Navy List May 1945). John served in Asbestos as the Anti-Submarine Control Officer.

HMCS MALAHAT (retired list) - as a Lt, RCN(R) (Navy List Jul 1952)
