Born: 28 Sep 1920, Trehern, Manitoba

 

Died: 24 Jun 1999, Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia

 

COE, Alvin Edward (Bob) - 78, Brule, Colchester Co., died June 24, 1999, in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born in Trehern, Man., he was a son of the late Alvin E. and Jessie (Gordon) Coe. He was a veteran of the Second World War and started his career with the military in 1939 serving in the North Atlantic as a gunner and retired in 1964 in the physical training department with the rank of Chief Petty Officer First Class. From 1963 until 1980 he served as athletic director of the Technical University of Nova Scotia and also served as dean of men. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 64, Tatamagouche, and the United Church of Canada. He was a former member of Sunrise Beach Golf and Country Club, Tatamagouche, and the Brightwood Golf Club, Dartmouth. While at TUNS, he liked to referee college football and basketball games. Surviving are his wife, the former Hazel Dawn Weatherbee; daughters, Janet Dougherty and husband Charles and their children, Michell, Robert, Dartmouth; Olivia and husband Blair Ranimondo and their children Rachael and Matthew, North Vancouver, B.C.; son, David and wife Gail and their children Timothy and Jay, Truro; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Drew, Megan; sister, Jean Jenkins, Bremerton, Wash.; close family friend, Marion Rowland, Tatamagouche; and four nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Catherine Ewing, Irene Waterman, Frances Cairns, Muriel Clark and Betty Brown. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Coulter's Funeral Home, Tatamagouche. Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 64, will conduct a tribute service in the funeral home Sunday at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday in Sharon United Church, Tatamagouche, Rev. Bonnie Kelly officiating. Interment will be in Barrachois Cemetery. Family flowers by request. Memorial donations can be made to North Shore Health Services Foundation.
