Died: 23 Mar 2004, Winnipeg, Manitoba

 

COOTE, Daniel John - beloved husband of Isabelle, passed away quietly on March 23, 2004 at the Grace Hospital. Daniel was born in Steinbach, MB on September 14, 1920 and moved to Winnipeg with his parents in 1931. In November 1935 he was employed with Dun and Bradstreet Canada. He enlisted in the RCNVR in September 1940 and served over three years on the HMCS Chilliwack in North Atlantic convoy duties. Following his discharge in August 1945 he returned to his former employment, and retired in January 1976. In May 1976 he became employed, on a part time basis, as credit manager with Mayers Packaging. He again retired in June 1984 to devote time to his family, hobbies and volunteer work. Dan was an avid gardener and fisherman, spending many weekends with his sons and friends fishing the lakes of Manitoba and Northern Ontario. Together with his wife Isabelle, Dan volunteered with Meals on Wheels for over 15 years and prior to that with the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He was a member of Sturgeon Creek United Church for over 40 years and enjoyed serving as an Elder and on other Church committees. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 60 years, Isabelle; two sons, Danny Jr. (Lori) of London, ON, Robert (Linda) of Winnipeg; grandsons, Rob of Edmonton and Jeff of Winnipeg; brother Al (Rena) as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Barbara and Henry, three sisters and six brothers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sturgeon Creek United Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Monday, March 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
