Merle L. Bitner

Died: 03 Sep 2019, Port Colborne, Ontario

 

BITNER, Merle L. - It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 in his 95th year. Survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Evelyn (nee Dyke), his children Larry (Laurie) Bitner, David (Wendy) Bitner and Debbie (Ken) Goss. Devoted grandfather of Erin (Lee) Napier, Laura (Kevin) Torch, Jason (Lisa) Goss, Dave (Jen) Bitner, Lyndee (Umi) Shahid, great grandchildren Elsa, Ellis, Meadow, Jackson, Violet, Paislee and Damon. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Emma Bitner and his brother Lorne Bitner. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy, worked at Algoma Steel until it closed and then the Robin Hood Multi Foods until his retirement. Merle was also a volunteer Fireman following the war. He was an avid golfer and pool player. Merle's top priority was his wife, children and grandchildren. The family wish to thank the entire staff at Northland Pointe for all the care given to Merle during his stay. Cremation has taken place. The Bitner family will receive visitors at the Davidson Funeral Home, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Friday, September 6, 2019 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Private family interment will take place at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens at a later date.
