For Posterity's Sake A Royal Canadian Navy Historical Project
In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
BOIDUK, Walter Vladimir - 79, Amherst, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2005, in Georges-L Dumont Hospital, Moncton, N.B. Born in Tartonovichz, Poland, he was a son of the late Alphonse and Anna Boiduk. Walter immigrated to Canada and settled in New Glasgow with his parents and later he proudly served in the Canadian Navy. Walter earned his teacher's qualifications, going on to teach 31 years and retired in 1988 at ARHS. He was also dedicated to teaching adult and driver's education. Within the community he enjoyed being a member of the Kinsmen's Club, Masonic Order, Acacia Lodge No. 8 Amherst, and Air Cadet (Commanding officer). Walter's lifelong passion for exploring the great outdoors brought his family around the province camping, fishing and prospecting, first by tent, the "Chow Wagon" and then his fifth wheeler (Luxury Liner). Mom and Dad both loved adventure - the joy in meeting people from all over. Walter's unassuming way drew many people to him; he will be missed by those who had the honor to know him. He is survived by his wife, the former Marion Smith; daughter, Susan Boiduk, Amherst; sons, James (Janice), Philip (Barbara), both of Amherst; Paul, Stephen (Julie), both of Halifax; sister, Helen (Robert) Dickie, Halifax; grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Josh and Jeremy; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons, Walter Bruce and Michael Alphonse; brother, Maxim. Humble beginnings brought greatness found within a simple, quiet, wise man. Cremation has taken place. Family will receive visitors today from 7-9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902-667-9906). There will be a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 19 at 2 p.m. in Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst, Rev. Patti Blundell officiating. Interment will take place in John G. Yeadon Cemetery, Brookside, Halifax Co. at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to charity of your choice. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 18 Jul 2005)
