Francis Alphonsus (Mike) Kelly

 

Died: 27 Feb 1993, Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

KELLY, Francis Alphonsus (Mike) - 69, Halifax, died February 27, 1993, in Montreal. Born in Saint John, N.B., he was a son of the late James and Elizabeth (Hebert) Kelly. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Navy. He was founder and director of the Halifax Junior Canadians from 1965-69. He was former vice-president of Nova Scotia Voyageurs from its inception until 1983. Most recently he served as vice-president of operations for Halifax Mooseheads of Maritime Junior Hockey. He was very involved in promoting St. Mary's and Halifax Junior A Hockey programs; United Commercial Travellers charities and Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church and very active in community service. He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth L. MacDonald; daughter, Hyla (Mrs. Robert Coolen), Bedford; two sons, Donald, Halifax; Sean, Bedford; brother, James, Saint John; six grandchildren; several cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Peter; brother, John. The body is in Atlantic Funeral Home, Halifax, visiting 7-9 p.m. tonight, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
