Dennis Arthur Hipgrave

Died: 20 Aug 2019, Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

HIPGRAVE, Dennis Arthur - 95, of Dartmouth, passed away on August 20, 2019 in the QEII Veteran’s Memorial Building. Born in Hertfordshire, England, he was the son of the late Noah and Emily (Andrews) Hipgrave. Dennis was a Registrar with NS Minor Hockey and was key in the building of Shannon Arena. He was a former member of the Austenville Owl’s Club. Referee –In – Chief for Soccer NS, coached minor soccer for many years. Dennis joined the Royal Navy at the age of 17, he went to war immediately, then transferred to the RCN in 1955 until his retirement in 1973 as a CPO. He was a Service manager at Halifax British Motors and A1 Autobody, retiring with 20 years combined. He loved to travel with his beloved Joyce, as well taking many trips with the Valardo’s. He is survived by son’s; Mark (Maureen Woodlock), Paul (Patricia), step-grandchildren; Emma, Glenn, Kirk and Karl, step- great grandchildren; Michael, Emma, Dylan, Jacob and Logan, niece; Linda (Tom) and family in the UK. He was predeceased by his loving wife Joyce, brothers; Douglas and Bert. Visitation will be held from 1 – 3 pm on Sunday, August 25, with a Celebration of life service at 11am on Monday, August 26, both in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery. No flowers by request, donations maybe made to the Heart and Stroke foundation of Nova Scotia. A special thank you to all of the staff of V4 West for your kindness and compassion given to Dad during his stay.
