Earl A. (Bill) Martin

Born: 11 Sep 1923, Magog, Quebec

Died: 24 Mar 2016, Ottawa, Ontario

MARTIN, Earl A. (Bill) - Passed away on March 24, 2016 at the Ottawa General Hospital. Predeceased by his loving wife of sixty years, Ruth (Harris), brother Ken and sister-in-law Barbara (Harris). Dear father to Nancy (Ken Waschuk) of Regina, SK and Alec (Sharon) of Ripley, ON. Grandfather to Grace (Waschuk), Eric, Daniel and Grant (Martin). Uncle to Julia (Greg Janigan), Sally (Roger McGuire) and John. Born on September 11, 1923 in Magog, Quebec, Bill was a WWII RCN veteran (HMCS Arrowhead), and lived and worked in Normetal, Magog, Montreal and Ottawa. Bill enjoyed downhill skiing on Orford Mountain, riding his horse Judgement Day, puttering away at his Kemptville property and travelling by sea. He and Ruth discovered the world by cruise ship. His memory seldom failed him; he prided himself on remaining current with a thorough reading of his daily newspaper, listening to French language radio and was delighted by the accomplishments of his grandchildren. Bill lived his life with no regrets, was a great observer of human nature and retained a natural curiosity that made him an excellent conversationalist. The family thanks the staff of Amica Bearbrook and 8W at the Ottawa General for Bill's exceptional care. Donations can be made to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation or The HMCS Sackville Project. A family celebration of Bill's life will take place in Magog where his ashes will be buried in the Martin Family plot at Pine Hill Cemetery. (The Ottawa Citizen 30 Mar 2016)
