Norman A. Prowse

Died: 16 Jul 2019, Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

PROWSE, Norman A. - age 89. Passed away on July 16, 2019 in Abby J. Lane Memorial Building, QEII. Norman was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy for 30 years; his career took him from communicator to becoming a Naval Diver and many experiences too numerous to tell. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He also was a volunteer for 19 years at the Veteran's Hospital in Halifax. He was a past master of the Masons and a Shriner. He walked many paths in life, loved the sea. The last eight years before retirement in Navy life he served on the Tancook Island ferry as first mate and relief captain. Norm was an avid lawn bowler for St. Mary's lawn bowling club for a number of years. He is survived by wife of 38 plus years, Jo; son, Roderick Prowse; daughter, Valarie Prowse; stepson, Harry Baker; stepdaughters, Kim Burnes, Cindy McWilliams, Joanne Thurlow; brothers, Melvin, Wayne; sister, Elaine; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his stepson, Timothy Baker. Many thanks to the care giving staff and Doctors of Abbie Lane, for their care in the last day of his life. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd. where visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 23rd, from 7-9 p.m. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 19 Jul 2019)
