Died: 12 Jul 2019, Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia

 

DOW, Perley Alvin (Al) - age 95, of Sheet Harbour, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019 in Harbourview Lodge, Sheet Harbour, with his wife and daughter by his side. Born March 28, 1924 in Campbellton, N.B. he was a son of the late Lester and Charlotte (Gallon) Dow. Al enlisted as an Able Seaman on May 4, 1943 in Saint John, N.B. he sailed from St. John's, N.L. to Londonderry, Ireland on convoy escort duty and was Honourably discharged on November 8, 1945. Al was a journeyman mechanic and foreman at Thorncrest Motors, Tilden Rental Car, Hilden Motors and also had his own ignition shop all in Toronto, Ont. in his working years. In his spare time he enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, and was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs Fan. Upon retirement he owned and operated Margie's Stop Spot for several years. Past Vice President of Courcellette Branch 58, also Past Master of Eureka Lodge No. 42. Survived by his wife of 46 years, Margie; son, Douglas (Nicole) Dow, Ste. Brigitte de Laval, Que.; daughter, Sheila (Bruce) Spicer, Popes Harbour; stepdaughter, Debby (Fred) Collinge, Bolton, Ont.; grandchildren, Matthew, Mark (Nicole Therrien), Adam (Amanda), Darren, Jamie, Devin; great-granddaughters, Hailey, Layla, Saphyre, Autumn, Scarlett, Simone, Chloe, Ava; brother, Murray (Kay). Predeceased by brothers, Bud, Bob; sisters, Vera, Viola, Nan, and Ila. Visitation Monday, July 15th, 2-4-7-9 p.m. with Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. and Legion Service at 8 p.m. all in D.S. Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 16th at 3 p.m. in St. James United Church, Sheet Harbour. Rev. Kym Burke-Cole officiating, burial in the church cemetery, reception to follow in Sheet Harbour Legion. Donations may be made in Al's memory to the Harbourview Lodge, Eureka Lodge or Sheet Harbour Legion.
