Martino Augustus Franchetto

 

Born: 27 Dec 1922, Albaredo, Treviso, Italy

 

Died: 23 May 2010, Burlington, Ontario

 

FRANCHETTO, Martino Augustus - Passed away peacefully on Sunday May 23, 2010 at the Carpenter Hospice Burlington, with family by his side. Much loved husband of June (nee Edwards). Predeceased by cherished wife Ruth (nee Jackson), mother of their children, William (Anne), Elaine (John), Thomas (Nina), James (Helen) and Christine (Randy). Caring “Grampa” to 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Warmly remembered by his siblings Helen, Phil, Mineo, Lou and their families. Martin was born December 27, 1922 in Albaredo, Treviso, Italy and came to live in Port Credit, Sarnia, Oakville and Burlington. He proudly served in the R.C.N. in WWII. He was an eager supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion and was honoured to represent his country in Holland at the 50th anniversary of V.E. Day. He was a recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for outstanding commitment and service to his community and country. He lived a full life as a devoted father, grandfather and friend who had a keen interest in hiking and travelling. Fondly remember Martin with a donation to Carpenter Hospice or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600), Oakville from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday May 26, 2010. Funeral service 11:00 am Thursday May 27, 2010 at St. Jude’s Anglican Church, 160 William Street, (at Thomas Street), Oakville. Interment St. Jude’s Cemetery, Oakville.
