HICKS, Larry Glenn - age 69, of upper Lakeville, passed away peacefully in Dartmouth General Hospital on July 6, 2013. Born August 20, 1943, in Oshawa, Ont. He was the eldest son of Ivan and Ivy Hicks of Whitby, Ont. Larry will be sadly missed by Frances (Laybolt), his wife of 48 years; his son Lyle (Michelle) and grandson, Damian, of Dartmouth. He is survived by his brother, Brian (Lynda) and nephew, Glenn of Bowmanville Ont.; niece, Melanie (Kent Lisowick) and great niece, Calla of Pickering, Ont. Larry retired from the RCN in 1986, having served 26 years as a stoker. He enjoyed visiting many foreign ports where he travelled on vessels too numerous to mention. After his naval career, Larry and Frances moved from Dartmouth to Cambridge, Hants Co., where they owned and operated Nogami Restaurant. Larry was a member of the Walton Shore Volunteer Fire Department, Ypres Oddfellows Lodge and the East Hants Tourism Association. Upon retiring again, they moved to Upper Lakeville and Larry joined the Oyster Pond Volunteer Fire Department where he helped at the card parties and enjoyed yarning with the regulars at the coffee club. Visitation was held at Rowlings Funeral Home in Musquodoboit Harbour. Funeral was held at St. James Anglican Church, Upper Lakeville, with interment following the Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry's memory can be made to St. James Anglican Church, Oyster Pond VFD, Kidney Foundation of Canada or Canadian Cancer Society.
