Died: 18 Jun 2019

 

WADDELL, Lillian Ruth (nee Hill) - Ruth passed away peacefully at Prince of Wales Manor on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the age of 96. Predeceased by Ken, her husband of 49 years, her parents Harry Hill and Lillian (nee Richard) and her sister Margaret (Bob Duncan). Mother of Wendy Waddell of Carleton Place and Bruce and Carolyn (nee Pinkham) of Ottawa. Grandmother of Heather Brown (Juan Miguel Pilamunga) of Ottawa, and Trevor Brown (Angie) of Carp. Great-grandmother to Piper, Spencer, and Ivy Brown and Sarah Pilamunga. Remembered by her nieces and nephew. Ruth enlisted in the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service during WWII where she was a Wireless Telegraphist. Following her military service, she obtained a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education from the University of Toronto and a Teaching Certificate from Ottawa Normal School. Music was one of her life-long interests including singing alto in church choirs, and as a tenor drummer in the Kemptville Legion Pipe Band. Ruth was also an avid gardener and took particular pride in her roses. She was an instructor and examiner with the Canadian Red Cross Society and the Royal Canadian Life Saving Society for which she received a long service award from the Province of Ontario. She enjoyed the decades of the family's Marlborough Stable showing horses at local fairs and was recognized by the Ottawa Valley Light Horse Association for her years of service as Treasurer. Special thanks to the palliative care team of the Champlain LHIN.
