PLOUGHMAN, Harry - Rev. Harry Ploughman, C.D., A.K.C., D.D. 69, of Hubbards died Tuesday at home. Born in Port Rexton, Nfld., he was the son of the late George and Mary (Randall) Ploughman. In 1930 Dr. Ploughman began his ministry in Minto, N.B.. as a lay reader after which he entered university of Kings College, Halifax. Graduating in 1939 he was ordained in the priesthood in Fredericton. In the same year he began a four year service in the parish of Pobique, N.B. In 1941, Dr. Ploughman joined the Royal Canadian Navy as chaplain and served in the HMC Dockyard and HMCS Niobe Scotland. At the end of the Second World War he returned to New Brunswick where he served in the parish of St. James and Saint John, Fredericton Junction. Dr. Ploughman returned in 1949 to the navy as chaplain of HMCS Cornwallis followed by appointments as command chaplain east coast Halifax and command chaplain of west coast Esquimalt, B.C. During this time he served nine months with ships in Korea. He was appointed deputy chaplain of the fleet at Naval Headquarters, Ottawa. In 1962, he was made chaplain of the Royal Canadian Navy fleet. Upon retiring from the navy in 1964, he became rector of St. Paul's parish Almonte, Ont. Dr. Ploughman's last position was chaplain of St. Anne's Veterans Hospital, Ste. Anne de Belliveau, Que. Since his retirement in 1975 Dr. Ploughman has resided in Hubbards. He served until recently as assistant at St. Philip's Church in Halifax. Surviving besides his wife, the former Philippa Thygesen are two daughters, Sonja (Mrs. Gary Gagnon), Saskatoon; Mary, Charlottetown and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, George. The body is at the Ronald A. walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from St. Luke's Anglican Church, Hubbards, Right Rev. G. F. Arnold celebrant of the Requiem Eucharist assisted by the Rev. Reginald MacDonald and Rev. George Beech officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill cemetery.
