MARCHAND, Joseph Helaire - 80, Halifax, died January 22, 1999, in Camp Hill Veteran's Memorial Building, QEII. Born in Louisdale, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Bertha Mae (Samson) and Wilfred Joseph Marchand. He served with the RCN in the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Vimy Branch 27. He was retired from the Dockyard for 20 years. He was a long time member of St. Stephen's Church and the Knights of Columbus Fourth degree. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rose (Kowalczyk); son, Ronald, Halifax; daughters, Jo (Anne), Halifax; Janet, Goose Bay, Lab.; five grandchildren; brothers, Francis, Benny Marchand, Louisdale; sisters, Lucille Voutour, Saugas, Mass.; Jean Samson, Louisdale. He was predeceased by brother, Willie; step-mother, Dora Mae (Samson). Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Monday in Cruikshank's Funeral Home, Robie Street.
