WRIGLEY, Gerald Wayne - age 77, Halifax, passed away June 1, 2019, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Gerry was born in Sudbury, Ont., to parents Gordon and Doris (Reineberg) Wrigley. At the age of 17 he joined the Navy, then in 1963 changed over to the Naval Air. During his career he travelled to several parts of the world including serving in the U.N. Peacekeeping Tour in Cyprus and participating in submarine patrols in the Atlantic during the Cold War Era. Due to medical reasons Gerry was released from the Armed Forces in 1977 in Greenwood. The next few years were a period of job changes including teaching CPR and drug addition courses to various groups throughout the Valley as well as working at Jacobson's Men's Wear in Greenwood. Gerry then became involved with the Credit Unions as manager in Bridgewater, Hantsport and New Minas. He served on the Board of Directors of Credit Union Central in Halifax - two years of which he served as president. Upon retiring from the credit union he did accounting work for several small businesses in the Valley until his health started to decline. Although known for his honesty, integrity and loyalty, Gerry was also known for his generosity to our families and others who were less fortunate. He enjoyed people and liked to cook and entertain. Gerry maintained his sense of humour throughout his illness. Gerry will be sadly missed by his wife, Norma; as well as his son, Tim (Shandy); daughters, Lucy, Mary Ann; grandchildren, Kyle, Amy Rossiter, Emily, Zachary, Terrence (Erine), Brandon and Simon; great-grandchildren, Josie and Kelsey Rossiter and Gerald Wrigley; half-sister, Carol Ralph; nieces, nephews; as well as mother-in-law, Virginia Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Edwin (Myrtle) Smith and their families. Gerry was predeceased by his parents; brother, Walter; sister, Jean; and half-brother, Gordie. The family would like to thank all those involved in home and hospital care who helped make Gerry as comfortable as possible during his illness. Many thanks to his friends and family who visited him. Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4th in Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Resurrection located at the corner of Windsor and Allan Street, Halifax, with the funeral service at 11 a.m.; reception to follow in the church hall. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. in South Shore Cemetery, Malagash. Contributions in memory may be made to Feed Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society or Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.
