Norman Nelson

Born: 09 May 1926, County Antrim, Northern Ireland

Died: 02 Apr 2019, Winnipeg, Manitoba

NELSON, Norman - Peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Deer Lodge Centre, Norman Nelson passed at the age of 92. Norman was born in County Antrim, Ireland on May 9, 1926, and immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1928. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 71 years, Margaret; his son John and wife Margy; along with grandchildren, Bryce and Sean (Kara). He is also survived by grandsons, Chris Goodwin (Shannon) and Garth Goodwin (Deanna); four great-grandchildren, Cadence, Gavin, Calder and Jordan, and by son-in-law Guy Goodwin (Lou). He was predeceased by his loving daughter Linda; his parents, James and Margaret, and his brother Jim; as well as numerous other relatives. Norman was an active member in the community, participating with the Scottish Right, Masons and Shriners. He served in the Canadian Navy during the Second World War, seeing action in the North Atlantic on the Arnprior. Norman was a proud member of the Winnipeg Police Service and was Staff Sargent-Traffic Division until his retirement in 1986. Norman's greatest enjoyment in the later years came from spending time with his family: he truly enjoyed all gatherings. As well, Norman thoroughly enjoyed co-parenting Kolby, our shared furry family member; they are now united. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Deer Lodge Unit 4, for their exceptional care of Norman. Cremation has taken place. There will be no formal funeral; a family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Norman's memory may be sent to The Movement Centre of Manitoba, 1646 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R2G 1N7. (Winnipeg Free Press 13 Apr 2019)
