ZIMMERMAN, Alfred Arthur (Zeke) - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Alfred A. Zimmerman on Friday, April 25, 2003 at the age of 78 years. Al passed away at the place he loved best, his home. Alfred will be dearly missed by his four sons, Tom (Mona), Bob (Kelli), Bruce (Wendy) and Barrie (Koree) grandchildren, Tracey (John), Kim (John), Ryan, Kyle, Tara (Brad), Chad, Randi, Alli, Branden and Carlie; seven great-grandchildren, Kayla, Keyana, Kaitlyn, Ashley, Rachael, Brook and Kade; as well as his most faithful companion, "mans best friend", Mitsy. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret in 1997. Alfred was born in London, England on March 13, 1925 and moved to Canada as a young boy. He served his country for the duration of the Second World War. In the early years, Al and Margaret could be found outdoors camping and fishing and enjoying the love of their family. Al worked at CNR as a hostler for 18 years. He always welcomed the many visits of his longtime family friend, Jamie Smyth. Al took great pleasure in the many animals he harboured over the years. He was also an avid Bomber fan and would never miss a game. Funeral services celebrating Als life will be held at the Windsor Park United Church, corner of Autumnwood and Cottonwood on Wednesday, April 30 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Sharon Wilson will officiate. Interment will take place in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens following the service. Pallbearers will be John Busby, John Correia, Chad Zimmerman, Ryan Zimmerman, Kyle Zimmerman and Branden Zimmerman. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing to do so may make a donation in Als memory to a charity of ones choice. (Winnipeg Free Press 28 Apr 2003)
