Alick Charles Croft

Born: 13 Sep 1916, Victoria, British Columbia

 

Died: 20 Jun 2000, Lacombe, Alberta

 

CROFT, Alick Charles - passed away on July 20th, 2000 at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre n Lacombe Albert at age 83. He was born in Victoria, British Columbia, September 13th, 1916, where he grew up, joining the Royal Canadian Navy, June 9th, 1938 and serving 25 years in both WW II and the Korean War. Alick met and married Priscilla (Sid) M. Fraser in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on April 17th, 1942, while station in Halifax. They were posted to Victoria, British Columbia shortly thereafter for 15 years and finally to Calgary, Alberta, where Alick discharged June 9th, 1963, from the Navy's Calgary Recruitment office. Alick joined the Grand Lodge of Ancient and Accepted Masons of British Columbia on October 13th, 1944; joined the Elbow River Lodge 180 in Calgary and received his 50 year pin. He joined the Grande Chapter Of Royal Arch Masons of Alberta on March 20th, 1970. Alick joined the Al Ashar temple of Calgary November 21st, 1970; was the Commander of the Tin Lizzie Corp in 1978.Alick and Sid moved to Gull Lake to their family summer cabin in 1984, where he renovated it into a cozy retirement home. They enjoyed life at the lake, boating, gardening, community events at the hall and cross Canada vacations in their motorhome, until 1997, when they moved in Locombe. Alick was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Ether of Victoria, British Columbia and his loving wife Sid on December 23rd, 1999. He is survived by his brother Herb (May Croft) of Victoria, British Columbia; his three sons Terry (Beverly) of Gull Lake, Jim (Norma) of Calgary. Doug (Sheila) of Bentley, five grandchildren: Troy, Trent, Jaime, Ashley and Alick, and one great grandchild, Julian. At Alick's request there will be no service. Wilson's Funeral Chapel of Lacome and Rimby in charge of arrangements.

 

Alick enlisted in the RCN on 06 Jun 1938 and retired on 31 May 1962
