John E. Campsall

Died: 21 Dec 2002, Victoria, BC

 

CAMPSALL, John E., - passed away December 21, 2002 in his home in Victoria. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, he attended Bennett School on Galligar Flats (Cloverdale). He moved to Vancouver with his parents and 4 brothers and 4 sisters in 1931. He attended Simon Fraser school and served his apprenticeship at McLean and Powell Iron Works. Predeceased by his son Roy Earl in December 1969 at age 25 years, brothers Clarence in 1993 and George in 1978. Survived by his wife, Hazel Christina (Mack) Campsall; sons John and Glen (Louise); brothers Roy and Bob (Jan); sisters Zylpha Young, Adeline Gregson, Pearl Hastie and Mae Oost; sister- in-law Mildred (Kline) Campsall, Roy's widow Elizabeth (Betty) and Blair Kilby; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. John was a member of the Langford Legion, Chiefs and P.O. Association and #1 Columbia Masonic Lodge. He was a 5 year veteran of W.W2, 3 years during the Korean war; was retired chief of the Royal Canadian Navy Permanent Force; retired Provincial Government employee; retired Chief Steward Government House and retired Commissionaire. He loved fishing, camping, swimming, his home and garden. He will be missed by many friends and shipmates. A memorial service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1155 Fort Street on Saturday, December 28 at 10:00 A.M. with a reception to follow. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. (Victoria Times Colonist 26 Dec 2002)

 

John served in the RCNVR (service number V14729) and RCN from 01 May 1941 to 31 Aug 1967
