BELL, Arthur John Avery - Son of Charles and Julia Norton (nee Avery) Bell of England. Husband of Kathleen (nee Anderson) Avery. He was appointed as a Leading Seaman, RNCVR in 1916. He was appointed as a Petty Officer, RNCVR. He served in CD 75 as Mate 1918.
PO Arthur Bell is one of two sailors who are believed to be the first sailors to have painted a maple leaf on the funnel of a Canadian warship.
At the time of his marriage Arthur resided in Okotoks, Alberta.
Note: Arthur's date of birth comes from the RCN Ledger Sheets. This differs by two days from his death certificate which lists him as born on 07 Jan 1886.
