CODNER, Gerald Winsor - 92 of Halifax The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, January 13, 2010 passed away on January 11, 2010, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax. Born in Torbay, N.L., on January 28, 1917, he was a son of the late Ernest and Annie (Winsor) Codner. Upon leaving Newfoundland, at the age of 13, he went to sea and worked for Canada Steamships Ltd. When the Second World War broke out, he joined the Merchant Marines and Royal Canadian Navy. After the war, he worked until his retirement as a Shipwright at H.M.C. Dockyard. He was a proud long-standing member of the Legion and the Royal Standard Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of St. Mark's Anglican Church. He treasured his time spent with family and friends at his cottage at Mill Lake, Hubbards, trout fishing, playing cards and darts.

 

He is survived by daughter, Sandra (Glen) Amirault; son, Richard (Barb); grandson, Chris (Tiffany Lee) Amirault and great-grandson, Marcus; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Bugden) and brothers, Eugene and Albert; sisters, Myra, Nina, Lavinia and Sybil. Special thanks to the staff of 6 East, Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 15, in St. Mark's Anglican Church, Gottingen Street, Rev. Janet Hatt officiating. A reception to follow the service will be in the church hall. Burial service will be at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Mark's Church or a charity of your choice.
