George Joseph Thomas (Tom) Wilkes

Died: 26 Sep 2026, Nova Scotia, Canada

 

WILKES, George Joseph Thomas (Tom) - age 69, passed away peacefully September 26th on his birthday, with his family by his side. Born in Dalhousie, N.B., he was the son of Pandora Harquail-Guitard and Edwin Wilkes.

 

After spending 5 years in the Canadian Navy, Tom was employed by the Nova Scotia Justice System as a Deputy Sherrif for 30 years, a job he loved.

 

Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his favorite pass time was watching his boys, Justin and Luke, play hockey. As well as his precious Bruins.

 

Tom is survived by his wife of 31 years, Heather; his 3 sons, Justin (Kacy) Wilkes, Lucas (Leslie) Hardie and Geoffrey (Jennifer) Hardie; 8 grandchildren, Sophia, Ronin, Will, Kaelyn, Jacob, Jaden, Jase and Jessica; brother, Kenneth Wilkes; mother-in-law, Brenda Rushton; Sister-in-law, Marilee Park (Owen); brother-in-law, Larry Rushton; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Shelley; her parents, Lois and Rodger; father-in-law, Shirl Rushton; sisters-in-law, Joy Gallant and Cindy Rushton; and brother-in-law, Allan Chapman.

 

The family would like to give special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses who took such special care of Tom during his many years of dialysis. Also, special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at the QEII during his last stay.

 

Cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life at Atlantic Funeral Home-Oakridge Chapel, 1110 Old Sackville Road, Middle Sackville, N.S. from 1-3 PM on Sunday, October 4th, 2026. (The Halifax Chronicle Herald 01 Oct 2026)
