MACDONALD, Laurie Douglas - 87, of Berwick, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at home.
Born in Vancouver, BC, he was a son of the late Douglas and Jean (Watts) Macdonald.
Laurie achieved the rank Chief Petty Officer, 2nd Class (CPO2) with the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Armed Forces. Laurie was proud to have served in the Navy for 33 years. Laurie spent 10 years as a Specification Writer for the Naval Architect in the Department of National Defence. He was a long-time member of St. James Anglican Church Halifax and Kentville.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary Jo-Anne (Kavanagh); daughters, Laurie Ellen (Kevin) Taylor and Heather (Darrell McCarthy) Macdonald; grandchildren, Christopher, Megan Rogers, Russell and Austin; great-grandchildren, Rachel Rogers, Aliyah Purdy, Kevin Taylor; brothers, Bruce (Nicki), Neil (Anne), and Rhauderick.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Anne (Morton).
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026 in the Christ Anglican Church, Berwick, The Rev’d Archdeacon Kristin MacKenzie officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the church hall. For those unable to attend, a video webcast of the service will be available by the end of day Friday, October 2nd. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society Nova Scotia, the QEII Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
