In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
VOWLES, Gerry - It is with great sadness that we join the Legion family in remembering Comrade Gerry Vowles, who passed away on July 31, 2026.
Gerry was a respected and influential leader in The Royal Canadian Legion, dedicating 47 years of service to veterans, remembrance, and communities across Canada. Throughout his remarkable journey, he served as Past BC/Yukon Command President, BC/Yukon Command Trustee, Treasurer, and as a founding member of the BC/Yukon Legion Foundation. His leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment left a lasting impact on the Legion and all those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Gerry also played an important role in the history of the Lynn Valley Legion. As a BC/Yukon Command Trustee during our shutdown in 2016, he was a strong supporter of our efforts to reopen and explore renewal opportunities. His encouragement, guidance, and belief in our branch helped us through a difficult chapter, and we remain deeply grateful for his support.
We were also honoured to welcome Gerry to the Lynn Valley Legion late last year, and we are especially grateful that we were able to capture a photo of him during his visit—a memory we will always cherish.
As a mark of respect, the flag at the Lynn Valley Legion will be flown at half-mast until sunset on Sunday in honour of Comrade Gerry Vowles.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Gerry’s family, friends, and the entire Legion community.
Thank you, Gerry, for your extraordinary service, your leadership, and your lifelong dedication to The Royal Canadian Legion. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
