MEADOWS, Charles Blackburn, Tel, 3012, RCN, MPK - 22 Oct 1940, HMCS MARGAREE - Son of Ernest W. and Elizabeth Meadows, of Victoria, British Columbia.

 

Telegraphist Meadows died when his ship, HMCS MARGAREE, was struck by the freighter SS Port Fairy while in convoy and was sunk. 143 of her crew were lost, 86 of them were survivors of HMCS FRASER.

 

Telegraphist Charles Blackburn Meadows whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest W. and Elizabeth Meadows, of Victoria is among the victims of the Margaree. He always displayed a keen interest in wireless and when he joined the Navy three years ago his superiors immediately marked him for telegraphy. He was slightly injured when the Canadian destroyer HMCS Fraser was sunk last June. He was unmarried and is survived by his family, who reside at 313 Edward St., Victoria, B.C.
