Died: 22 Aug 2025

 

SAMMS, Milton Wayne (Sammy) - peacefully passed away August 22, 2025 after a brief illness, surrounded with love at the age of 75.

 

A beloved soul who touched so many hearts over the years. He was born in Mount Moriah and raised in Grand Falls , Newfoundland, where he spent his time playing pool and skipping school. At 19, he left Nfld. to join the Navy. He became Sammy the Proud Naval Weapons Technician. Soon after, he met Audrey, and they stayed in HRM to start and raise their family. He had postings to Ottawa and Montreal and back to Dartmouth where he retired after a 35 year career with the Royal Canadian Navy, He was well respected by all his colleagues. He enjoyed his retirement being a grandad and spent 20ish years making memories and amazing friends at Riverland Campground. He was heavily involved with the Centennial Legion Branch 160. Having served as a President and a Life member.

 

Left with a broken heart, his best friend and companion Jeanette Lancaster. She brought him a new lease in life and together they created a love many of us could only imagine. He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Cathy and Judy. His son-in-law's Christopher 'ones and Andrew Eisan He will be forever proud of his grandkids Bryenton, Jonah, Lillian, Sophia and Willow. Also left to miss him are his siblings Gene (Marja), Gale (Niall), Jill (Charles), John (Denise), and many nieces and nephews. His family meant the world to him. Milton was predeceased by his parents, Gideon and Deliliah Samms; His brother, Gary and sister-in-law Blanche and his wife of 45 years Audrey Samms.

 

A celebration of his life will be held at Centennial Legion Branch 160; 703 Main St., Dartmouth on Wednesday August 27 from 1-4 p.m.

 

Donations can be made in his memory to the Poppy Fund at Centennial Legion, or to a charity of your choice.
