John entered the RCNR 31 Mar 1941 as a cook. His wife was the former Miss Virginia Zinck of Feltzen South. John is buried in the Feltzen South Cemetery, Feltzen South, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia
John's brother Clyde Spindler served in the RCN and his brother Gilbert Spindler the Army. His father Forman Spindler was a First World War Veteran.
