FRIARS, Gordon Glenn - 72, of Quispamsis, passed away peacefully at his home on July 10, 2025.

 

Gordon was born on August 1st, 1952 to Helen & James Friars in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan. Gordon leaves behind his wife of over 51 years, Jean and their children Darryl (Shauna) and Melissa (Adam).

 

Gordon spent over 27 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. While serving in the Navy his travels around the world included deployments served as a Peacekeeper, in Egypt and Cambodia, proudly wearing the blue beret. Gordon was honoured to be presented with The United Nations Medal, Golden Jubilee and the Diamond Jubilee Medal. These are just a few of the many honours and awards throughout his career.

 

After military service, he worked in the community as a Search and Rescue volunteer, Quispamsis Town Councillor, County Coroner; this gave him the sense of fulfillment by helping many family at their hardest times, and created some of his most impactful and humbling memories. Gordon was a member of the Rothesay Police Commission, member of the Horizon Health Research Ethics Board and devoted member of Branch #58 Kennebecasis Legion.

 

Gordon spoke with great joy when sharing stories of running with the Olympic Torch in 2010. He loved the outdoors, hiking, canoeing and wood working. He completed a bucket list item at 70 years old hiking Mount Carleton. His greatest love was spending time with his family.

 

Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Helen and James Friars, sister Elaine Molander.

 

He is survived by his brothers; Bill (Kathy), Pat (Lynne), Jim (Llweyn), Dan and his sisters; Karen, Debra (Don), his son Darryl (Shauna) and daughter Melissa (Adam) and his grandchildren; Anne, Karmen, Holly and Oliver.

 

Gordon was honoured to receive his service dog Jedi in 2016 and would start every morning at the break of dawn walking her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119) on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 4 PM – 7PM. A Royal Canadian Legion Service in honour of Gordon, will take place at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Paws Fur Thoughts or Soldier On, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. (Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home)
