Vernon (Vern) Loucks

 

Petty Officer Supply Technician, 17092-E, RCN / C.A.F. (Navy)

 

Born: 27 Jun 1933, Pangman, Saskatchewan, Canada

 

Died: 15 Oct 1991

 

Served in the Navy 1952-1978

 

Vernon was born on the family farm in Pangman Saskatchewan in June 1933. He attended school in Pangman and at the Moosejaw Technical School.

 

He joined the navy on December 29, 1952 and retired in 1978. He served in the following ships and establishments: Naden; Magnificent; Stadacona; Antigonish; Skeena; Saskatchewan; Qu'Appelle; and Hochelaga. He received the Canadian Forces Decoration in 1964.

 

He married Dulcie in Halifax in October 1955 and they arrived in Victoria in November of that year. They had two daughter, Linda and Gail and a son Byron.

 

Vern was active in sports and played for the navy hockey team. He spent many years coaching Byron's and Linda's hockey, lacrosse and softball teams.

 

After retiring from the navy, he worked at the Pat Bay Cadet Camp and then for DND at Colwood. He passed away on October 15, 1991.

 

Vern's brother, Kenneth Loucks, also served in the RCN.
